United Policyholders is a non-profit that informs and helps people in connection with insurance matters, disaster resiliency and recovery.  We advocate for fair insurance practices across the United States. Volunteers are essential to our operations and effectiveness.  If you’ve personally navigated disaster recovery or are a professional with experience in insurance sales, claims, coverage or legal matters, personal finance, casualty loss tax rules and/or damage repairs/construction, consider becoming a Team UP volunteer. We offer a wide variety of opportunities for you to contribute your knowledge and help people.

If you are interested in volunteering with Team UP, please read below, then complete our Volunteer Interest Form and you will be notified of a future volunteer training.  If a need arises we will reach out directly.

Roadmap to Recovery Volunteer Opportunities

Roadmap to Recovery (“R2R”) volunteers are a listening ear and source of information, encouragement and comfort to people who’ve been impacted by a natural disaster.  Volunteer opportunities include writing, speaking, listening, connecting people with information and a variety of tasks related to our webinars, online and print publications, outreach, data gathering and analysis and advocacy engagements.

Roadmap to Preparedness Volunteer Opportunities

Our Roadmap to Preparedness (“R2P”) volunteers educate consumers on properly insuring their assets and being financially resilient to adversity. Using UP resources and their own knowledge, our R2P volunteers help people understand the risks they face in their region, options in the current insurance marketplace, and how to shop for a policy that will be a safety net should they need it down the road.

Advocacy and Action Volunteer Opportunities

Our Advocacy and Action volunteers support the work we do to protect and defend policyholder rights in courts and legislatures throughout the United States.  They also support our R2R and R2P programs described above. Our volunteers help us answer consumer and media questions, publish guidance and reports, monitor and respond to marketplace and legal developments and file “friend of the court” briefs on issues that impact policyholders.
