Sonoma County

Sonoma County was awarded a Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in November of 2022, providing $37 million towards home hardening and other fire mitigation measures.

The Wildfire Resilient Sonoma County, the BRIC project, will complement and scale up the projects, capabilities, and systems currently being developed by Permit Sonoma staff through the Sonoma County Wildfire Adapted program and the Hazardous Fuels Reduction Project. This project will simultaneously implement mitigation projects in built and natural environments to reduce the risk of devastating wildfires.

The program’s defensible space and structure hardening assessments, community workshops, and rebate incentives to help property owners understand, prioritize, and complete risk-reduction projects.  For more information, visit: https://permitsonoma.org/socoadapts

Free Home Assessment via Sonoma County Wildfire Adapted Program The Sonoma County Wildfire Adapted program (SoCo Adapts) is a pilot program that uses community-scale risk-reduction techniques to reduce wildfire’s potential for home destruction. The goal of the Wildfire Adapted program is to help property owners learn how to reduce fire-related risks. The program provides defensible space and structure hardening assessments, community workshops, and rebate incentives to help property owners understand, prioritize, and complete risk-reduction projects.
