Devastating flooding in the Pikes Peak region has hammered home the importance of having flood insurance.
So many people in El Paso and Teller counties have been suffered–in some cases again and again–after an especially harsh monsoonal pattern season. Those living near the Waldo Canyon and Black Forest burn scars have been especially vulnerable each time storm clouds have moved back into the area.
If you or someone you know has any questions about flood insurance, there’s a workshop Monday night that could help answer those questions for you. The workshop is intended for anyone living in areas under constant threat of flash flooding. Businesses in these susceptible areas are also invited.
The workshop will be held from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at the Manitou Springs City Hall. Non-profit consumer group United Policyholders is hosting the workshop. Other presenting at the workshop include the State of Colorado Division of Insurance and National Flood Insurance Program/FEMA.
“This is an important opportunity for area residents to learn about their current policies and coverage, understand the process for establishing loss inventory and how flood insurance provides needed coverage for those in flood prone areas,” county commissioner Sallie Clark said in a statement released by El Paso County.
