Adjuster delays George Sands asked 6 months ago
Adjuster delays

Andjuster for the CA Fair Plan came for a 2nd look at our home. It has now been 40 days and the revised estimate is still not ready.

Is there a limit to the amount of time a field adjuster can take to write and deliver their revised estimate/report?

Hi George,

In California, there isn’t a specific statutory maximum time limit for insurance carriers to produce repair estimates after damage. Often the carrier will need time to produce a thorough and complete repair estimate, and the length of time needed to do so can depend on multiple factors, including: custom construction, extensive damage, the need for a specialized contractor or vendor to review items, or simply high claim volume in general.

Once estimates are generated by the adjuster, they must be reviewed and approved by management. This can involve multiple layers of approval depending on the financial value of the loss or the complexity of the claim. Each layer of approval does add additional time to the process.

There are general claim handling timeframes that your carrier must adhere to during this process, which include providing a status update every 30 days after an initial 40-day period.

We would recommend that you contact your adjuster via telephone and follow up in writing for a status update. UP provides great tips for communicating with your carrier and adjuster, which you can review here:
