Enclosed Eaves? Kate Kirsh asked 8 months ago
Enclosed Eaves?

For FAIR Plan discounts, do eaves have to be enclosed on all stories or only the first floor? Does the enclosure have to be completely horizontal or can it follow the slope of the roof?

Hi Kate,

The FAIR plan may provide discounts based on a number of factors, including:

-Wildfire Hardening Discount – For homes that meet the California Building Code Chapter 7A standards, which includes multiple hardening features working together

-Community Hardening Discount – For properties in communities that have received Firewise USA® recognition or similar community-wide wildfire preparedness certifications

-Protective Device Credits – For having fire alarms and sprinkler systems

-Superior Construction Discount – For homes built with fire-resistant materials and construction methods

However, since insurance policies and discounts can change frequently, we’d strongly recommend:

-Contacting the CA FAIR Plan directly to confirm current available discounts

-Working with a licensed insurance agent who can review your specific situation

Getting a professional inspection to identify which hardening measures your home currently has and which you might benefit from addressing, such as the eaves.

UP provides some great information on the FAIR plan, which you can access https://uphelp.org/buying-tips/the-lowdown-from-up-on-the-california-fair-plan-the-last-resort-option-for-insuring-your-home/
