Hi Bob,
We’re sorry to hear that FAIR plan denied your discount. This sounds like a potential verification issue rather than an eligibility problem. Here’s our recommendations:
-Gather definitive proof of your property’s location: Get an official map of the Firewise Community boundaries with your property clearly marked out. Alternatively,
get a letter from your Firewise Community coordinator specifically stating your property is within the designated area. You can also request documentation from the NFPA Firewise USA program showing the exact community boundaries and that your property is located within these boundaries.
-Submit a formal appeal to CA FAIR Plan: Include all documentation showing your property’s location, providing your property’s exact GPS coordinates if possible. You should also reference the specific Firewise Community certification number and request a specific explanation from FAIR plan as to what verification method they used to deny your discount.
Involve authorities to help: You can also file a complaint with the DOI and provide them copies of all the documentation you submitted to FAIR for your discount.
THe following are examples of additional documentation you can provide to FAIR to show your location within the Firewise boundaries:
-Property tax records (confirms your address)
-HOA or community records if applicable
-Letter from your local fire department confirming your location within the Firewise boundary
We ralso ecommend that you review UP’s WRAP Center here, which includes wildfire risk reduction standards, home assessment stategies, discounts and nonrenewal information:
