With our renewal notice from Liberty Mutual was a request to submit a video of both the exterior and interior of our house using a “property assistant” app. Here’s their wording: “An inspection of your property is required to confirm information about your insurance policy with Liberty Mutual. The inspection will allow us to make sure we’re providing you with the most accurate coverage to help give you peace of mind in the unfortunate event of a loss.” I see this as just another ploy to deny coverage. We’ve never been asked about the home interior before. Is it legal for them to ask us to submit visuals of our home interior?
Hi Sally,
They have the right to inspect the property they are insuring. Insurance companies use to do drive by to do exterior inspections. More than likely they have already done an exterior visual with an aerial inspection for the roof and trees and require ground level photos. If the risk had issues via the aerial inspection the client would have received an intent to cancel. With requesting the client to do photos the upside is convenience for the client. They can photograph the required areas at the best angles. More than likely the carrier will ask for photos of the Electric panel, water heater, gas shut off valve, kitchen, and baths to see upgrades, walkways, back yard, roof line from the ground and maybe the garage. They will non-renew if the client does not comply with the request. Gone are the days when agents would go to the client’s home.
