Ins. company did not renew and there is still an open claim, no one else will ensure with open claim

My insurance company is not renewing policy and the end of term is here.

There is still an open claim, but no one else will insure us with an open claim.

Looks like we will need to close the claim prematurely just to get a new policy…?

We have all our payouts so far, and work has begun, but it is not completed.

I am worried that we might run into any problems getting work done which otherwise would have called for additional funds from original insurance company.

This is a tricky situation, but the North Carolina Department of Insurance may be able to help you. Here’s the form to complete to seek assistance: https://www.ncdoi.gov/contactscomplaints/assistance-or-file-complaint

A good agent or broker should also be able to help you. Prematurely closing the existing claim before you’ve been fully compensated may not be the solution – as other insurers can access your (open or closed) claim history through the CLUE database (https://uphelp.org/buying-tips/what-to-do-about-clue/). To access your CLUE report, contact the LexisNexis Consumer Center at 1-800-456-6004 to request the information related to the non-renewal and your inability to get a replacement policy.
