Old Foundation Claim Stacy Chrisley asked 1 month ago
Old Foundation Claim

About 2 years ago I had foundation issues caused by damaged pipes under the house. My insurance company at the time covered the repairs for the plumbing and the foundation. I had just switched to a new insurance company but noticed that the foundation is still giving me issues. I’m seeing cracks and huge drywall issues like drywall falling off my ceiling. The foundation company that did the work initially came back out to measure as they had a lifetime warranty on the work. But when they did the work they only did a certain area and not all the foundation, So the area that they didn’t touch is moving and they won’t cover it.

I’m wondering if my previous insurance company will still handle getting it fixed since the claim was originally with them? I’m worried my new insurance company won’t touch it or say the same thing like they will only cover it if it’s due to another issue going on. I am just at a loss for what I should do or can do.

Hi Stacy, We’re sorry your having foundation issues. Firstly, you did the right thing by going back to the contractor who worked on the foundation in the past and have them assess their work. If they have advised that you have additional and separate foundations, then unfortunately, you will need to separately address this damage (including the drywall cracking). Definitely contact the carrier who your original foundation claim was with. They may be able to help. However, your insurance policy is designed to coverage damage on a ‘per occurrence’ basis, meaning that you may need to open a separate claim for this additional foundation and drywall damage. This additional claim could be with your original carrier or new carrier, depending when you first discovered this additional damage.
