Why can a broker deny non-renewal from one plan then refer them to the FAIR plan that they broker as well? Linda Campbell asked 1 year ago
Why can a broker deny non-renewal from one plan then refer them to the FAIR plan that they broker as well?

How can a CA Farmer’s broker deny non renewal, without inspection of an home/maintained with fire safety standards and then be allowed to be a broker for the FAIR plan? The FAIR plan has become the only resort for CA homeowners, who happen to live, within 25 miles of Forestland. For over 40 years I have lived within 2 miles of a local consolidated fire station and a CAL Fire station. Currently Grass Valley Airport hosts a regional Air Command station, which is under two miles from me as a crow flies. As stated above, to my knowledge, I have practiced fire safe standards. This situation applies to others, like my neighbors. who carried Farmer’s insurance. I also have mortgage that dictates I have homeowner’s insurance. On a fixed income, I’m barely making the monthly home insurance payments, now. Even if I wanted to, who could buy it?

Dear, Linda:

We are so sorry to hear of your situation. Unfortunately, as you’ve seen in the news, Farmers is limiting the number of policies they are writing and they are not obligated to renew the ones already in place. Insurance agents across the state can act as FAIR plan brokers. Here is a link to the CA FAIR Plan and more information in our publication The Lowdown by UP on the California FAIR Plan.

Best,
