Wildfire Risk Reduction (Mitigation) Resources

View grants, community programs and information that can help you reduce the chances of a wildfire damaging or destroying your home. “Home hardening” means home improvements.  “Defensible space” means creating a plant and tree-free zone around your home.

Town of Paradise Residential Ignition Resistant Improvement Program

This program aims to provide financial assistance for eligible improvements that enhance the resilience of homes that withstood the Camp Fire in the Town of Paradise, ultimately making them more fire resistant and safer for their occupants.

The program is limited to $90,000 in improvements per property. The property owner is responsible for 25% of the total cost of improvements.

DEFENSIBLE SPACE – GRAVEL GRANT

 

$500 gravel voucher from Rebuild Paradise Foundation for hardscaping Zone 0: the 5ft closest to your home

  • Partnering with a local aggregate company, you
    choose gravel you like, up to $500 worth ($500 = 10 cubic yds road base gravel).
  • The aggregate company will deliver* to your house for no extra fee
  • You spread the gravel in Zone 0 around home perimeter where needed

ReCoverCA Owner-Occupied Mitigation (OOM) Grant Eligible Home Hardening & Mitigation Costs Include:
• Debris clearance, demolition, landscaping, repairs, etc. that increase the level of protection from future wildfires and disasters.
• Defensible Space and Home Hardening activities that increase resilience and reduce or eliminate long-term risks and impacts of future disasters.
• Activities that assist in bringing a home and property up to code with Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) standards.

Butte County Chipper Program Butte Fire Safe Council has a grant-funded chipper program to aid residents in removing vegetation waste and fuels reduction.

Berry Creek Chipper Program The Berry Creek Fire Safe Council has a chipper program to aid residents in removing vegetation waste and fuels reduction.

Doom the Broom Butte Fire Safe Council has an invasive weed removal program, including a weed wrench lending program for broom removal.

Vegetation Management Program (VMP) CAL FIRE This program offers controlled burns/mechanical management of fire hazard materials. VMP connects private landowners to CAL FIRE for this service.

Butte Protection Areas MapButte County urban areas are under the jurisdiction of the respective municipal fire departments.
Much of the rural area in the eastern and northern portions of the county are

SRA
and the responsibility of CAL FIRE’s Butte Unit.
The Plumas National Forest covers the
FRA
on the National Forests. Mutual Aid agreements ensure cooperation and adequate resources responding to wildfires.
