Insurance companies have armies of full time lobbyists, lawyers and public relations professionals that promote their business interests in the media, courts, legislatures.  Their paying customers, (“policyholders”) have United Policyholders, our volunteers and partners.  Through our Advocacy and Action program, UP is constantly working to influence outcomes in favor of policyholders and strengthen and defend laws. Laws that hold insurance companies to their promises and obligations so when adversity hits, insurance pays.

This work includes our Amicus Project through which the policyholders’ voice gets heard in courts throughout the United States.  It includes our work with decision makers in government, industry and academia, including the Essential Protections for Policyholders project and the American Law Institute’s Restatement of the Law of Liability Insurance project.  It includes our ongoing efforts to get the consumer voice into media coverage of insurance matters.  Advocacy work is an essential complement to the education work we do through our Roadmap programs, (Preparedness and Recovery).
