UP is continuing to advocate for policyholders and disaster survivors in the media, legislature, and other public policy forums.

UP Executive Director Amy Bach had an impactful Spring:

• Providing expert testimony to the newly created California Governor’s Commission on Catastrophic Wildfire Recovery; fighting against illegal coverage reduction after a wildfire-related loss
• Serving on a panel at the California Association of Realtors Lobby Day in Sacramento to advocate on behalf of California homeowners who have been dropped by their insurance companies
• Speaking to decision-makers and industry leaders at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) International Insurance Forum in Washington, D.C.

Our hard work is paying off!  The California Insurance Commissioner recently issued two bulletins to help ease survivors’ claims processes. Both addressed issues that UP has been working to advance for years: ensuring that survivors who want to purchase new homes after a loss don’t have the value of land deducted, and recommending a grace period for ALE coverage when policyholders are experiencing delays in construction beyond their control.
