Contents Inventory List items to include: Furnace?

Greetings,

When creating my contents inventory for our insurance claim for a total loss, do I include our furnace?

How about installed light fixtures, fans and installed dishwashers, water heaters etc? Please clarify.

Thanks!

Regards,

Laura

Hi Laura,

In general, your contents claim should include everything that would fall out of your house if you turned it upside down and shook all the loose items out. This typically does not include things like your furnace and other install fixtures, which will usually be part of your dwelling claim. You can read our recommendations about how to go about this in this publication: Home Inventory and Contents Claim Tips. You can also watch this very informative and comprehensive webinar we presented last year, Contents Intensive and Collecting Depreciation. Please read your policy carefully to determine what applies in your situation.
