My insurance company sent me an unsolicited check to cover smoke/ash remediation. It is slightly less than the lowest bid I submitted. This was sent despite the fact that I clearly communicated that I had not yet decided how I was going to proceed. They have also not addressed several other aspects of the claim (personal property, loss of use, etc.) How do I endorse the check in such a way that it is clear that this is not a final payment on the claim?
Hi Eric, it is typical that the carrier will provide payment once damages are estimated; this does not mean they are finished adjudicating the claim.
You can endorse your insurance check on the back under your signature endorsement with “not as a full & final settlement – all rights reserved”.
