Keeping DiC Policy for Liability Coverage

We lost our home in the Eaton fire. We had CA Fair Plan and a DIC policy with Mercury.

We would like to continue to have just liability coverage for the now vacant land until we decide to rebuild or sell. We are being told we cannot keep the Mercury DIC policy unless we keep the CFP policy as well. Given the very significant cost of the CFP, this option does not make financial sense.

It looks like our only other option is to acquire a liability only policy, however no admitted carriers seem to be available and looks like only non-admitted would be our only way to go.

We are sorry you lost your home in the recent fires. Unfortunately, your situation is correct. You cannot keep a Differences in Condition policy without the main policy through FAIR Plan. You’re desire to secure liability insurance is smart and a non admitted carrier may be your only option. We would recommend that you check the financial solvancy of the carrier before binding your policy.
