State Farm would like us to submit an estimate from a landscaper so that they can pay us the remainder of our policy. Are there any landscapers who would not charge to give us a quote that we could submit to insurance?
Hi Allegra, Detailed estimates take time to prepare properly, particularly the type of itemized estimates insurance carriers often require to evaluate a claim. We recommend checking with local garden centers and nurseries, as they may be able to provide referrals to landscapers in your area who prepare insurance-related estimates. You may also want to ask neighbors, friends, or family members for recommendations.
Because preparing a detailed estimate requires a professional’s time and expertise, you may find that some landscapers charge a fee for this service. If you are unable to locate someone willing to provide a sufficiently detailed estimate at no charge, it may be worthwhile to pay for an estimate that adequately documents the scope and cost of the landscaping work.
Check out UP’s Trees, Shrubs, and Landscaping Insurance Coverage publication. Often, policies have ‘per plant, tree, shrub $$$ limits’ so it’s a good idea to understand your coverage and any limitations when securing your landscaping estimates.
Good luck, Lexi
