Mark Dillman
Mark Dillman

Mark Dillman has been a policyholder advocate in some way, shape, or form for most of his life. He owes that to growing up in a public adjuster family. Mark recalls raking through debris to record “dental floss and toothpicks” (which his father would remind him not to miss) to properly complete a contents inventory beginning in middle school. Helping policyholders who had just suffered a detrimental loss be ‘made whole’ quickly became a rewarding passion. Mark received his own Connecticut Public Adjusters license in 2015 and has adjusted a variety of property claims since, ranging from small kitchen fires to commercial structures burnt to the ground.

Observing the quantity of claims requiring expert handling that went beyond claim adjusting, Mark decided to attend Boston University School of Law where he graduated in the top 25% of his class. During his tenure at BU Law, he was fortunate enough to intern at a large insurance brokerage as well as a plaintiff-side property insurance law firm to gain valuable experience.

Immediately following law school, Mark was hired as the Staff Attorney at United Policyholders. There, he got a unique peek behind the curtain into “how the sausage is made” through the eyes of industry giant and consumer champion, Amy Bach.

Following his tenure at United Policyholders, Mark gained valuable litigation experience working for Merlin Law Group’s San Francisco office in the years following the historic California wildfires. Here, Mark had the opportunity to again assist both residential and commercial policyholders in this niche area of law.

Mark has since returned home to New England, reunited with his father and brother in the family public adjusting business. In his free time, Mark is most likely watching the Red Sox, figuring out who’s pitching tomorrow, or watching re-runs of past games.

If I sell my house with fire damage, will my claim still be paid out

Complicated but main question… if I sell my fire damaged house, will the open claim be canceled or will I still be paid out directly and not go to the new homeowner? Home is located in California.
