On January 10, 2024, a combination of seasonal high tides and heavy rain systems hammered the Maine coastline with record flood waters. Maine experienced the storm as a “sou’easter”, with the strongest winds occurring simultaneously with astronomical hide tide. Gale-force winds occurred along the coast further contributing to coastal flooding, erosion, and structural damage. Flooding also occurred in New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.
