California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara has accepted an invitation from the Rural Bonny Doon Association to speak at an online forum at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, on the home-insurance crisis facing residents of Santa Cruz County who live in wildfire-prone areas.
“All of us have been deeply affected by the growing insurance crisis. We have had our insurance policies canceled or seen dramatic increases in our premiums and now face a very uncertain future,” the Rural Bonny Doon Association said in a release promoting the event. “Join us for presentations and a panel discussion, featuring representatives of government, industry, and consumer advocacy groups. We have designed this discussion to give a 360-degree view of the problem, the efforts underway to fix it, and what the future holds.”
In addition to Lara, speakers will include 28th District California Assemblymember Gail Pellerin, California Department of Insurance Deputy Commissioner Julia Juarez, Personal Insurance Federation of California Vice President Seren Taylor, United Policyholders program specialist Joel Laucher, Santa Cruz County Office of Response, Recovery & Resilience Director Dave Reid, Cassidy Insurance Agency managing member Edan Cassidy and Cassidy Insurance Agency Assistant Manager Jessica Murawsky.
