SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The national insurance consumer advocacy non-profit United Policyholders (UP), announced today that the Community Foundation of Sarasota County has awarded a grant that will fund services to insured households impacted by Hurricane Ian in Charlotte, DeSoto, Manatee, and Sarasota Counties through UP’s Roadmap to Recovery™ program. Funding for the grant was provided through the Suncoast Disaster Recovery Fund.
“We are profoundly grateful to the Community Foundation. This critical support will significantly enhance our ability to reach and assist households that are in dire straits and stay engaged with our Florida partners,” said Executive Director Amy Bach.
For over 30 years, United Policyholders’ Roadmap to Recovery™ Program has helped disaster-impacted households and communities navigate the insurance claims process, hold insurance companies to their promises and collect all available insurance funds in order to finance repairs and rebuilding.
Communities impacted by disasters are relying heavily on insurance benefits to fund repair/building and recovery, yet those benefits often don’t flow as quickly or fully as they should. Funding from the Community Foundation will enable United Policyholders to continue assisting traumatized households in navigating the long term recovery process and Florida’s complex insurance and legal environment.
Since Hurricane Andrew in 1992, United Policyholders has provided support to Florida residents after major hurricanes. The Roadmap to Recovery™ Program has a track record of helping people reach full and fair claim settlements, resolve disputes, and stay reasonably organized and emotionally strong enough to maintain forward momentum toward restoring their assets, quality of life and communities.
