Wildfire Risk Reduction (Mitigation) Resources

View grants, community programs and information that can help you reduce the chances of a wildfire damaging or destroying your home. “Home hardening” means home improvements.  “Defensible space” means creating a plant and tree-free zone around your home.

Morage-Orinda Free Chipper program The Moraga-Orinda Fire District is offering a free chipper service for residents.

Fire Adapted Community Ambassador Program Use the Moraga-Orinda Fire District on-line form to request a free, non-enforcement-related home assessment from the Moraga-Orinda Fire District’s Volunteer Fire Adapted Community Ambassadors.
Bromstead Memorial Smoke Detector Program Check your eligibility for a new smoke detector on the Rodeo-Hercules Website, or call (510) 799-4561 for more information.
ESS (Earthquake Soft Story) Retrofit Grant The California Residential Mitigation Program offers an ESS retrofit grant for homeowners whose house was built prior to 2000, and has a one-story living space over the garage, also known as “soft story.” A grant of up to $13,000 is available through the ESS program.

Home Repair Grants Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley has partnered with Contra Costa County’s Neighborhood Preservation Program (NPP) to offer home repair grants and loans up to $70,000 to low income homeowners.
