Wildfire Risk Reduction (Mitigation) Resources

View grants, community programs and information that can help you reduce the chances of a wildfire damaging or destroying your home. “Home hardening” means home improvements. “Defensible space” means creating a plant and tree-free zone around your home.

Modoc Fire Safe Council Chipper Program This program provides vegetation chipping for slash piles resulting from of homeowners’ efforts to reduce hazardous fuels and create defensible space around their homes and/or structures.

Landowner Assistance Defensible Space Program This program assists homeowners, at no cost to the homeowner, in creating a 100 foot Defensible Space (or up to its property line) buffer around homes in Modoc County Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) areas.
