Wildfire Risk Reduction (Mitigation) Resources

View grants, community programs and information that can help you reduce the chances of a wildfire damaging or destroying your home. “Home hardening” means home improvements.  “Defensible space” means creating a plant and tree-free zone around your home.

Nevada County Chipping Program Vegetation and defensible space management chipping service offered by the Nevada County Fire Safe Council. Rate is $175 per hour 
Nevada County Fire Safe Council Access & Functional Needs Program Free defensible space clearing services, within 100 feet of homes, for low-income residents who are either 65+ or disabled.

Defensible Space Advisory Visit Program Free one-on-one consultation at your home with a trained Volunteer Advisor from the Nevada County Fire Safe Council for knowledgeable advice on what you can do to reduce the threat of losing your home in a wildfire.
