Wildfire Risk Reduction (Mitigation) Resources

View grants, community programs and information that can help you reduce the chances of a wildfire damaging or destroying your home. “Home hardening” means home improvements.  “Defensible space” means creating a plant and tree-free zone around your home.

Senior Disabled Defensible Space Clearance Assistance Plumas county residents over 65 or with a disability can apply for assistance meeting the requirements of the California Defensible Space Law.

Free Fire-Prepared Home Evaluations Plumas county residents can request a no-cost consultation to create a more fire-prepared property through the Plumas County Fire Safe Council. After the evaluation, residents will have access to a confidential report.

County-wide Chipping Program Plumas County Fire Safe Council is administering a county-wide chipping program with grant funding from CAL FIRE.

Plumas Underburn Co-op Prescribed Fire Service The Plumas Underburn Cooperative is a group of citizens and firefighters working together to promote wildfire resiliency using controlled application of fire. ReCoverCA Owner-Occupied Mitigation (OOM) Grant Eligible Home Hardening & Mitigation Costs Include:
• Debris clearance, demolition, landscaping, repairs, etc. that increase the level of protection from future wildfires and disasters.
• Defensible Space and Home Hardening activities that increase resilience and reduce or eliminate long-term risks and impacts of future disasters.
• Activities that assist in bringing a home and property up to code with Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) standards.

Feather River Landowner Assistance Programs. The Feather River RCD’s Landowner Assistance Programs provide no-cost assistance for landowners regarding fire recovery, erosion control, fuels reduction, timber stand improvement, and other resource interests and concerns. Landowners who request assistance can have RCD staff assess their property and provide management recommendations.

Plumas county is largely National Forest land and the

, is protected from wildfire by the Plumas and Lassen National Forests.  Areas around the town of Chester and Lake Almanor are
SRA
