Below you will find local wildfire preparedness programs, grants and resources to help you make home / property improvements and reduce wildfire risk in your community.  Scroll down to access grants and resources for Santa Clara County.

Wildfire Risk Reduction (Mitigation) Resources

View grants, community programs and information that can help you reduce the chances of a wildfire damaging or destroying your home. “Home hardening” means home improvements.  “Defensible space” means creating a plant and tree-free zone around your home.

Free Property Inspections Wildfire Preparedness Inspections are designed to assist property owners in determining what can be done to their property to minimize fire hazards and maximize fire resistance.

If you live in a hillside community within Santa Clara County Fire’s jurisdiction and would like a free property inspection, contact the Fire Prevention Division at (408) 378-4010.

Chipper Program The Santa Clara Fire Safe Council offers free chipping services to help residents clear debris created by defensible space clearing.

Home Ignition Zone Inspection The Santa Clara County Fire Safe Council offers Home Ignition Zone (HIZ) assessments for individual homeowners. A trained representative from the Santa Clara County Fire Safe Council will come to your home and walk your property with you for 60 minutes. They will review defensible space and home hardening principles and make recommendations for your property. Request an inspection on the webpage linked here.
Saratoga Hazardous Tree Removal Program Apply to receive up to 50% or $1,000 reimbursement for the removal of certain hazardous dead trees from your property.
