Supervisor Heidi Hall took a leadership role at the California State Association of Counties’ annual meeting in November in Alameda County.
She moderated the panel, “Fire Insurance Crisis: How We Got Here and Where We’re Going.” The panel included a representative from state Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara’s office, an insurance company representative (Personal Insurance Federation of California) and a watchdog group (United Policyholders). Hall plans to continue working on this issue next year, advocating on a state and federal level for regulatory changes and financial relief for people hit with skyrocketing fire insurance costs.
As vice chair of the association’s Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources Committee, she also moderated a discussion on “Emergency Management: Planning, Evacuation, and Post-Disaster Action.” The discussion included representatives from the California Office of Emergency Services, the state Fire Marshal, and the livestock and natural resources advisor from the University of California Cooperative Extension.
