Wildfire Risk Reduction (Mitigation) Resources

View grants, community programs and information that can help you reduce the chances of a wildfire damaging or destroying your home. “Home hardening” means home improvements.  “Defensible space” means creating a plant and tree-free zone around your home.

Placer County Chipper Program The Placer County Resource Conservation District offers Vegetation Chipping services at $80 per hour or free for low income households or those with a disabled/handicap vehicle placard.

Placer County Resource Conservation District Fire Safety Technical Assistance Program This program provides help with finding potential cost-share opportunities and technical assistance with mitigation actions including defensible space, home hardening, fuels reduction and management, prescribed burning, and timber harvest.

Firewise Trailer Education Program This program provides a rentable trailer that includes equipment, tools, and other information as a way to help landowners achieve defensible space and stay safe. It includes weed wrenches, a weed eater, leaf blower, pruners, loppers, shovels, brooms, rakes, electric chainsaws, and Firewise education material.

Defensible Space Fuels Reduction Program This program exists to assist vulnerable residents in creating defensible space around their homes and properties. The program offers financial assistance of up to $5,000 per property to eligible property owners in Placer County who are low-income and elderly or disabled

Truckee Fire District Green Waste Dumpster Rebate Program This program provides up to $75 off on a 6 yard green waste dumpster rental to remove green waste and create defensible space for Truckee residents.
